Recycling Partners: Where Does it All Go?

LAST UPDATED 2.9.24

Since the Hub opened in April of 2021, many folks have questions surrounding our recycling and reuse partners - questions like, “After I bring my items here, where do they go?” It’s a great question, with a bit of a complicated answer!

Because the Hub is a one-stop-shop for so many hard-to-recycle items, we have many partners with whom we work to reuse or recycle everything that is dropped off. Take a look at the tool below to dive deeper into where items are sent after the Hub, and click into partner logos to be taken to their sites - or, if you don’t have time to explore right now, check out the summary at the end of this post!

Brightmark is a plastics recycler that we send rigid plastics #2, #4, #5, #6, #7, un-numbered rigid plastics, flexible plastic film, and several forms of styrofoam such as plastic foam & sheets, packing peanuts, and food & colored styrofoam. #5 plastics may also be sent to PureCycle.

Azek recycles #3 plastic (PVC) into new materials such as new decking.

EcoDevelopment recycles clean, white, non-food styrofoam which is first densified by Boone County.

TerraCycle accepts many branded items for recycling - check out the full list here! Make sure to sort these items, as the Hub can earn a small amount from this recycling process.

Lion’s Club receives eyewear for reuse.

Dress for Success, Soles 4 Souls, and GotSneakers all work to reuse shoes in wearable condition. The Hub earns a small amount for sneakers that go to GotSneakers. We are actively seeking a new outlet for recycling shoes of any type and will post once we have that connection.

Blue Jeans Go Green accepts denim to be recycled into insulation, pet beds, and other items.

Matthew 25 Ministries sends donated pill bottles and medical equipment where needed for reuse.

Veolia recycles batteries and lightbulbs in a safe manner.

Tire Discounters is our tire recycling partner.

GreenDisk recycles electronic media waste such as CDs, ink cartridges, cassette tapes, and more.

Tri State Escrap recycles miscellaneous electronics, CRT TVs, string lighting, and refrigerant-containing appliances.

IT Supply Solutions accepts flat screen TVs, computer monitors, computers, laptops, tablets, phones, A/V equipment, and other electronics for reuse and recycling.

D6 recycles #1 thermoform (rigid) plastics.

NexTrex recycles Store Drop Off category plastic film into plastic bottles, strapping, and decking.

Finally, YOU are a partner too! Many of the items we receive are stored at the Hub and put back into the community for reuse. Our first defense against waste is reuse, then recycling. Don’t forget to shop the fourth floor for reusable items when you bring your recyclables!
