Scrap It Up: Partner Feature

Cincy is the place for creative reuse crafters! As you may know, here at the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub, we house the Re-Maker Space, a creative reuse space for our monthly craft nights, and a 4th Floor Reuse Shop stocked full of everything from 3 ring binders to crayons, glass blocks to carpet squares! Everything from the 4th floor is available for free to take away during operating hours (Thurs 12p-5p & Sat 10a-2p). However, if you’re specifically looking for art materials and upcycled items, you should check out Scrap It Up.

Located at 5935 Ridge Road in Pleasant Ridge, Scrap It Up is a creative reuse center for all crafters. Founding member Mandy Burger states, “It was started by several women who had already banded together to reduce waste and promote recycling/upcycling in their children’s school.” Mindy and her partners Kathy Michel and Mary Lennard are on a mission to keep good stuff out of the landfills, provide low cost materials to folks in their community, and help people think about materials in new ways. Scrap It Up is a proud non-profit operating under the umbrella of the Kennedy Heights Arts Center.

Throughout their journey, Scrap It Up has grown to 25 volunteers! “Some do sales while the shop is open. Others take donations or organize certain areas of the shop such as fabric, scrapbooking or jewelry making. We value and appreciate each person’s time and talent,” says Mandy. To say Scrap It Up is for everybody would be an understatement! Teachers, scout leaders, artists, quilters, homeschool families, students, and everyone inbetween love the unique items they find, the variety, and especially the prices.

Scrap It Up goes further than their amazing shop. They give back to many arts initiatives in their community. They’ve donated to the scholarship fund at The Kennedy Heights Arts Center and New Life Furniture Bank. They have even donated to the Hub! We cannot extend a big enough thank you to Scrap It Up!

The Scrap It Up store is open for shopping Wednesdays 3-7pm, Thursdays and Fridays 11-2, and Saturdays 11-3. Donations are by appointment on Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon. Visit their website to schedule an appointment and get more information about the items they accept and sell. When are you going to check out Scrap It Up? Let us know. We would love to hear about any and all creative reuse art you make.
